The self-retracting fall arrester (also called a self-retracting lifeline or SRL) is a personal fall protection device that automatically extends and retracts as the worker moves, keeping the lifeline taut. In the event of a fall, the inertia-locking mechanism engages instantly to arrest the fall within a short distance, minimizing free-fall distance and impact force on the body. It is an essential alternative to lanyards where mobility and frequent position changes are required.
